For years we have received frequent requests and enquiries about the possibility of us providing an online phonics training course in addition, or as an alternative, to our face-to-face/school training events.

Well, we've listened and now we’ve created an online phonics training course and we’ll be ready to launch in early September 2015!

What does our course provide?

Our online phonics training course is a substantial ‘advanced’ professional development course providing the ‘bigger picture’ of reading and spelling instruction in the English language, the rationale for Debbie's programmes’ designs, a study of the English alphabetic code itself and discussions about effective teaching and learning methods.

The course describes Debbie's specific approach: ‘Two-pronged systematic and incidental phonics teaching’ - which features the central Alphabetic Code Chart, and why she considers this to be an advancement from a strict adherence to a ‘Systematic Synthetic Phonics’ approach.

Debbie addresses the need to teach phonics informed by international research and for all profiles of learners – such as young beginners, older learners, learners for whom English is the first language or a new or additional language – and as learners with additional learning challenges (special needs/intervention).

The course will support participants in their capacity to compare and evaluate all phonics resources and all programmes and practice as it is very important that the teaching profession and teacher-training profession, tutors, and parents in the role of the main teachers, can be evaluative and make informed choices.

The main body of the course is provided via twelve modules - each of which contains multiple lessons and video instructional material. Some lessons concludes with a 'progress check' which must be completed before you can progress to the next lesson.

Each module includes links to various research papers, supportive printable documents, relevant websites and blogs, recommended reading and video footage relevant to the focus of each module.

In addition, there are also suggestions for assignments for those participants who wish to select an area to explore further as an individual or alongside colleagues (for example, in a school setting or for a university assignment or for a post graduate assignment).

Rounding off the course, in an additional two modules, we include an overview of both the Phonics International online programme for all ages and the Oxford Reading Tree Floppy’s Phonics Sounds and Letters programme for infants.

**All course participants will be given a free 12 month licence to the full Phonics International online programme and resources.**

We provide a professional development certificate for completion of our course, and we are working towards university accreditation (with a leading UK university) for those who wish to access the course at a deeper level.

The cost of the course has not yet been finalised, but will be priced 'per student', with discounted rates available for multiple participants from the same school/educational establishment. In addition to this, we are discounting the course as a launch offer by over 50% - for a limited period only!
